The Green Exchange
Design Strategy + Interaction Design
In today’s volatile medical cannabis industry, an independent grower stands alone when it comes to finding a suitable dispensary to sell too. They’re often met with a highly competitive marketplace that makes it difficult to get the price that they’re happy with, while dispensaries have a difficult time finding specific varietals at the quality they need. Ultimately, this makes it tough for patients to have consistent access to high-quality varietals (a vital aspect of treating their ailments) because of the lack of supply chain management and quality grading.
For my final thesis project in my Venture Studio Course, my team and I developed The Green Exchange – an online brokerage that intelligently matches growers with dispensaries to legally buy and sell graded medical cannabis at the highest possible standard. The service features a centralized ordering, grading, and delivery system that solves many of the supply chain issues currently riddled throughout the industry. Through the Green Exchange’s safe and secure website, the seller can easily post and manage their inventory while letting potential purchasers quickly find what they want within their price range. Each transaction is accompanied by an on-site inspection process that uses DNA testing to verify and grade the cannabis variety being sold. After testing, the product is sorted, packaged, sealed with a holographic security sticker, and then delivered to an assigned buyer. Both parties pay a service fee based on the transaction price.
By modernizing the medical cannabis industry’s outdated supply chain and sprucing up its counter-culture aesthetic, the Green Exchange hopes to make a long-lasting positive impact that ultimately serves the needs of patients who rely on safe and consistent access to their medication.
The project was one of three finalists in a class competition and was pitched in front of a live audience of venture capitalists and active members of the SF design community for critique.
